Turning Your Coffee Table Into An Indoor Succulent Garden Is The Ultimate DIY Project

Succulents are some of the best plants to have around your house. They’re beautiful, come in so many unique colors and shapes, and better yet, they’re really easy to care for (read: hard to kill). But why should you settle for just one or two when you could have dozens? People are turning old coffee tables into beautiful succulent gardens and frankly, it’s one of the best DIY upgrades I’ve ever seen.

  1. It’s the ultimate way to bring some greenery to your living space. Sure, you could just have plants in pots on shelves and tables around the room, but what’s better than having a ton of plants in one space — not to mention a space no one expect to see them? Coffee table succulent gardens are the future, I’m telling you.
  2. The world (table) is your oyster! You can fill yours with whatever succulents or other plants you’d like depending on what looks good to you. You could even add colorful rocks or gemstones if that’s a look you like. This is all about customization so you really can make the perfect table for you.
  3. How creative you can get depends on a few different factors. First and foremost, it largely depends on what type of coffee table you’re working with as to what kind of succulent garden or indoor terrarium you can create. Glass-top tables with a large gap in between work well if you still want to be able to use it, but open-top tables can be used indoors or outside too. Also, you’ll have to be somewhat of a handywoman (or have someone around who’s good at things like this) to actually put it together.
  4. You could always buy a table pre-made. If you’re lazy like me, this Kickstarter campaign for a glass-top table ready to be filled with plants for minimum effort probably appeals to you. If you can’t find one ready-made, contacting custom furniture builders should get you one pretty easily.
  5. If you need help, don’t despair! There are tons of tutorials for coffee table succulent gardens and terrariums online, like this one from Martha Stewart that walks you through things step by step. A quick Google search will bring up plenty of options depending on how you want yours to look, so don’t be afraid to do a deep dive!
