This Couple Built A Fake Lap For Their Clingy Cat And She Totally Fell For It

While most cats are pretty much indifferent to our existence, sometimes you find one who’s super loving and into cuddles. That’s definitely the case with 10-year-old Ziggy, an adopted kitty who loves curling up with her owners so much that they were forced to make a fake lap for her to sit on. The good news is, she actually bought it!

  1. Londoners Rebecca May and her husband Alex were behind the genius invention. While Rebecca and Alex love cuddling with Ziggy, the cat’s constant need for attention and affection became problematic when they began working at home and struggled to get anything done. Ziggy was always jumping on the desk, walking on the laptop, and generally being a(n) adorable troublemaker and the couple was at their wit’s end.
  2. Ziggy can’t help it, she just loves love. While Rebecca told The Dodo that Ziggy was shy when they adopted her, the cat can’t resist a lap when she sees it, even if it ends up being a fake one apparently. “When she bonds with someone it’s just really intense. She absolutely has to be sat on you,” May said.
  3. Thus, the fake lap was born. Rebecca and Alex obviously wanted Ziggy to be happy, but the cat wasn’t into the bed they bought her at first. In a moment of epiphany, Alex decided to stuff a pair of pants to make them look like legs, added a heating pad, and even put shoes at the bottom to really up the ante. It wasn’t long before Ziggy was indulging in the willing lap. “He thought that creating a decoy would be funny, but I don’t think he expected it to actually work,” Rebecca recalled. “Harley [Ziggy’s sister] was totally uninterested, but Ziggy loved it.”
  4. Don’t worry, they still plan on giving Ziggy plenty of cuddles. The fake lap isn’t a replacement for the real thing, the couple are aware, and they definitely plan on letting the cat curl up with them whenever possible. However, when they have a busy day of work ahead, this could definitely come in handy.
