An Ohio couple who celebrated 79 years of marriage in June has now reached another milestone: they turned 100 years old. June Malicote was born on July 13, 1922, while Hubert Malicote was born on July 23, 1922. How incredible is it that they’re both still alive and well?

- The couple’s family, friends, and other loved ones threw them a celebration. June and Hubert’s joint birthday party was held at the Eaton Road Church of God in Hamilton on July 15, where they were joined by family members, friends, neighbors, and church members. All in all, roughly 130 people stopped by to wish the couple well as they celebrated their 100th birthdays. As Hubert told Fox News Digital (via NY Post): “We just kind of live by the day and all of a sudden we’re 100 years old.” Ain’t that the way!
- Hubert and June’s love story is just so precious. They met at church in 1941, where they were attending a revival with their separate friend groups. Hubert sat in the pew behind her and at one point, she turned around and smile. The rest, as they say, is history. “After the service, down the street … was an ice cream parlor, so all of us young people went to the parlor, got ice cream and talked and had a nice little afternoon together,” Hubert shared. “There were no automobiles or anything. So, she went her way, and I went mine. I kind of thought about how I would make contact. And I decided that church was the best place.”
- Their love grew slowly but surely. Hubert and June continued to get to know one another at church and eventually went on a first date to the local county fair. Afterward, the couple shared their first kiss. “I didn’t really know what to do,” he said. “I was just barely 19 and kind of a country boy. And I thought, ‘She’s looking pretty dressed in red.’ I reached over and hugged her a little bit and gave her a kiss.” They stuck together through the war, which Hubert fought through as part of the US Navy. Eventually, they decided to get married.
- They’ve raised three wonderful children together. Hubert and June eventually built a home on a five-acre ranch after World War II and raised their kids, Jo, Sam, and Theresa together. They even have seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
- Hubert and June have loved every moment of their relationship. “[It’s been] so easy to get along together,” June said. “We have not even had a quarrel.” Hubert added: “We maybe have had disagreements. But we’ve always worked them out. Our attitude has been that you don’t hurt the one you love. And if you have an issue or quarrel, take care of it, don’t let it grow, think it over, talk it out and solve the problem and go on with your life.” Sounds like good advice!
