Crayola’s New Colors Of The World Crayons Include 24 Skin Tone Shades

Inclusion, diversity, and representation are all incredibly important, especially for children. With this in mind, Crayola has released Colors of the World crayons, a box of 24 colors that were specially formulated by the brand to represent more than 40 different skin tones from around the world. This is an incredible thing!

  1. Crayola wanted more people to feel included by their brand. To accomplish this with their Colors of the World crayons, they worked with former chief chemist at MAC Cosmetics and current CEO of MOB Beauty Victor Casale to develop colors that are accurate and diverse. The process took nearly eight months to complete and the results are amazing.
  2. Kids can easily find the shade they’re looking for. That’s because Crayola included a color chart on the side of the Colors of the World box for easy reference. Instead of coming up with more creative and whimsical color names, they stuck to more realistic shades for this collection, including colors like very deep almond, medium deep rose, and extra deep golden.
  3. Crayola hopes the new collection will have the desired effect. “With the world growing more diverse than ever before, Crayola hopes our new Colors of the World crayons will increase representation and foster a greater sense of belonging and acceptance,” said Crayola CEO Rich Wuerthele in a press release. “We want the new Colors of the World crayons to advance inclusion within creativity and impact how kids express themselves.”
  4. There’s even a special edition! While you can get the standard 24-crayon Colors of the World box from Crayola and anywhere that sells the brand, Walmart has a special version with 32 crayons. That includes the 24 base colors as well as four hair shades and four eye shades and sells for $1.77.
  5. Hopefully this inspires more brands to follow suit when it comes to inclusion. It’s about time, after all!
