Customer Says McDonald’s Is ‘No Longer Affordable’ After Sharing Meal Receipt

A man on TikTok has slammed McDonald’s for raising its prices, claiming it’s “no longer affordable” to eat there. Topher, who poses as @topherolive, recently visited his local restaurant and was shocked to discover that his regular order of a Smoky Double Quarter Pounder BLT burger with large fries and Sprite came to more than $16. Given that many sit-down establishments offer meals for less, it’s understandable that it’s causing an uproar.

  1. A bit of a price increase wouldn’t be too bad. As Topher pointed out, inflation means that everything is going up in cost, so he expected to pay a little more at the till. However, seeing his receipt was a real eye-opener. “So I get there’s a labor shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things but… sixteen dollars?” he says in the video. “Sixteen dollars for a burger, a large fries and a drink. It’s just [nuts].”
  2. Some people agree with him. After he posted his video, many people took to the comments section to sound off on their own frustrations. “Five Guys prices at McDonald’s?!?” one outraged commenter wrote. Another added: “It’s officially not convenient or affordable anymore, might as well go to the store and buy hamburger meat.” A third person wrote: “I make a lot more of my own food these days because of stuff like this,” added a third, with the TikToker replying: “Exactly. I eat 90 percent from food I cook and this really shocked me.” For many, McDonald’s just isn’t affordable anymore.
  3. However, not everyone was on Topher’s side. One person remarked that Topher had chosen an item that was generally more expensive anyway, writing: “Bro ordered the most expensive meal they have and acted surprised.” Another commenter agreed, writing: “Because you got DOUBLE DELUXE BACON quarter pounder, literally the most expensive option on the entire menu.”
  4. A few people mentioned a helpful tip: downloading the McDonald’s app. A few commenters mentioned that the restaurant’s app always offers coupons and discounts, meaning you can eat for cheap every time you visit. “You can literally eat McDonald’s for under $6 every time,” one person advised. Another added that McDonald’s often offers 50% off deals on the app as well, making it more affordable.
