An enraged father attacked the man accused of killing his 3-year-old son in chaotic courtroom scenes caught on camera. Desean Brown, 22, allegedly stabbed mother Nyteisha Lattimore to death before throwing her young son, Nylo Lattimore, into the Ohio River in 2020, where he is believed to have drowned.
- The boy’s body has never been found. However, the prosecutor in the case revealed that Nylo’s blood was found on a Paw Patrol blanket found with his mother’s body. His stroller was recovered from the river.
- Antonio Hughes, the boy’s father, attacked Brown in the courtroom. The incident happened during a pretrial hearing on Thursday, June 23. Hughes marched over to Brown’s table before the hearing started and punched him in the right side of the head, according to Hamilton County Sheriff’s PIO Kyla Woods, Fox 19 News reports.
- Hughes was restrained and placed into custody. Faith Burton, a friend of the Hughes family, later said that pain “took over” during the incident and that “he did what I think any of us would do.” She said that Hughes had been devastated over the death of Nylo and was struggling even moreso because the body had yet to be found and so they haven’t been able to place him to rest.
- Hughes’ emotional reaction is more than understandable. As anyone with kids would know, you’d do anything to protect them. “I’ve had to be on late-night calls, because he’s on the edge, you know? He’s on the verge… I couldn’t live without my child either, you know?” Burton told Fox19. “So I get his emotions, I get why he acted out in court today.”
- Judge Megan Shanahan found Hughes in contempt of court. Hughes was sentenced to seven days at the Hamilton County Justice Center. “Judge Megan Shanahan and the Hamilton Sheriff’s Office would like to emphasize that this behavior will not be tolerated in the courthouse,” Woods said of the incident.
- Brown murdered Nyteisha in cold blood. According to Cincinnati police specialist Kimberly Kelley, Brown had reportedly told a close friend that he was going to do something to Nylo since Nyteisha had miscarried his own child. If found guilty, he will face the death penalty.
