Dad Of Transgender Girl Designs Line Of Worry-Free Swimswear For Nonbinary Kids To Feel Comfortable In

All kids deserve to feel included and comfortable in their own skin, which is why Canadian dad Jamie Alexander knew he had to do whatever it took to ensure his daughter Ruby, who’s transgender, never felt self-conscious or afraid to live life to the fullest. When the family was taking a trip from their native Toronto down to Central America when Ruby was 11, she was nervous about going swimming as she felt typical bathing suits might “out” her in a conservative and less accepting country. That’s when Jamie sprung into action and came up with a line of swimwear specifically for nonbinary and “gender creative” kids.

  1. The line is called Rubies after the girl who inspired it. After realizing that there were literally zero swimwear options for transgender and nonbinary kids, Jamie sprung into action. A tech entrepreneur by trade, he and Ruby worked together to come up with swimwear bottoms that look just like ones that are sold in stores, only these ones contain padding and a secret pocket for discreteness.
  2. Rubies are now available in pink and black. The bikini bottoms, which are available in two colors, even include a handwritten note from Ruby herself, who’s now 13. Her messages are always encouraging and accepting, reading something along the lines of: “You are strong, brave, and extremely important.” Another example includes: “Keep being you and don’t let anyone bring you down. I am transgender myself and can understand you.”
  3. Parents and kids are so grateful for this brand. The reviews for the bikini bottoms speak for themselves: families are relieved and inspired by Rubies as it’s allowed their kids to feel comfortable in their skin and go out and enjoy life with confidence. “The material, construction and fit is of superior quality, the ‘secret’ pocket is definitely secret. She also liked the personal touch of the words of encouragement from you. You have made one little girl very happy. Thank you Rubies!” one review reads. Another adds: “Perfect!’ That’s what my granddaughter said when she put on her Rubies swimsuit bottom.”
  4. Jamie and Ruby are working on even more products. They’re currently offering customers the chance to pre-order a one-piece swimsuit as well as bikini-style underwear that offers the same padding and protection as their swimwear. What an incredible business doing amazing work for transgender and nonbinary youth everywhere!
