This is a safe space, so you can totally admit that your succulent collection is getting a little out of control… and that you totally have your eye on a couple more plants to add to it. That’s fine! I get it! But if you’re running out of room for traditional planters or simply want an excuse to go back to the garden center to do a little shopping, why not try making a DIY succulent sphere? It’s easier than it sounds, I promise.
- It takes fewer materials than you’d think. YouTube account Garden Answer has a pretty solid DIY succulent sphere tutorial and she makes hers with moss spheres, fertilizer, some pins to secure any loose plants, pole holes to fit the plants into, and a few other things to create the finished product. She’s extremely detailed in her instructions and makes it seem really easy!
- There’s more than one way to get ‘er done. You could also fill two hanging baskets with moss and then attach both of them together to form a sphere. Then stick the succulents in! CBC Life‘s DIY succulent sphere tutorial calls for wire, a gardening shovel, wire cutters, a craft knife, pliers, cardboard, two hanging baskets, soil, a bowl, and enough succulents to cover the sphere.
- They can be hung anywhere. Your DIY succulent sphere is impressive as hell — hello, you made it yourself! — and can be displayed on your front porch, in your garden, or even indoors in your living room, office, bathroom, or wherever else you want to cover with greenery.
- DIY succulent spheres would actually make an amazing gift too. If you have a best friend, parent, or sibling with an upcoming birthday and you know they love plants, why not make them one of these? They’re sure to appreciate the time and effort that goes into making it and they’re guaranteed not to get anything like it from anywhere or anyone else.
