Dog Beds For Humans Are A Thing Now And I’ve Never Wanted Anything More

Two economics students from the University of British Colombia have found their way right into my heart (and the hearts of many others, I suspect) by coming up with the invention none of us ever knew we needed: dog beds for humans. Uh, YES PLEASE!

  1. It’s called the Plufl. The brand’s co-founders, Noah Silverman and Yiki Kinoshita, came up with the idea because of their own love of getting some quality shut-eye mid day. “We’ve always been huge nap fanatics,” Silverman said, as per the Times Colonist. “Being full-time students, working on the side, with extracurriculars, napping is how we cope with a busy lifestyle.” Makes perfect sense to me!
  2. Dog beds always look pretty comfy, don’t you think? Plufl wasn’t just born out of a desire for comfortable napping but also because humans should have something as fluffy and relaxing as dog beds. Kinoshita saw Silverman, who worked at a UBC coffee shop whose owners have a Great Dane, napping with the animal one day and it all started to come together. “Noah and I have been big nappers for a while now and felt we need a better napping solution,” Kinoshita explained.
  3. It’s literally exactly what it sounds like: a dog bed made for humans. Because this one is for actual people rather than pups, the materials are slightly more robust. The base contains orthopedic and memory foam and is covered with a gorgeously soft faux fur. There’s also a border that you can tuck your feet and hands into for ultimate coziness. “This is more oriented to napping and lying down,” says Kinoshita. “It provides more support.” The Plufl even has handles to it can be carried around more easily.
  4. There’s plenty of room for this in the home furnishings sector. Because there’s nothing like it out there at the moment, the Plufl has a ton of potential. “We want to become a long-term nap company,” Silverman said. “The sleep industry is big but napping is not addressed; it’s not the same as sleeping.”
  5. If you want a Plufl on your own, you’ll have to be patient. For now, the project is still in the Kickstarter stage, where it’s already earned more than $100,000 of backing. Those who back the project with $399 or more will get their own Plufl, which is a pretty solid discount on the $500 price tag the item will eventually have. The first units are expected to be shipped later this year.
