Sorry cat lovers, but dog lovers make the best boyfriends. After all, how could a man who snuggles with a puppy at night be a bad guy? It’s impossible to be mean when you have so much cuteness in your life, and his ability to care for and bond with another living creature means he’s got a big heart and is capable of giving time, energy, and affection to something other than himself. Here are even more reasons that dog lovers make great boyfriends:

  1. They’re responsible. Anyone who owns a healthy dog is responsible. Puppies require plenty of food, walks, love, and play time. That’s why owning a pet isn’t actually a walk in the park. It’s a lot of hard work.
  2. They aren’t afraid to clean up messes. A dog lover won’t hesitate to clean the gunk from the drain or change a baby’s diaper because they’re used to cleaning up disgusting messes. Cleaning up their dog’s poop and wiping up its vomit is a common occurrence. They have plenty of experience.
  3. They’re patient. Unless their dogs are running around like maniacs, these guys must be good teachers. After all, puppies require a lot of training. They need to be taught how to go to the bathroom outside, how to sit, and how to stop themselves from jumping on top of guests. That can take a whole lot of patience.
  4. They stick to plans. Anyone with a pet knows about the importance of having a schedule. A man with a dog needs to set aside enough time each day to walk his furry friend, feed him, and play with him. Otherwise, the puppy would throw a fit.
  5. They’re laid back. You can’t be stuck up and own a dog, because the pet might rip up your couch or chew on your shoes. That’s why a man with a dog is someone that you can sit back and relax with. You won’t have to worry about him yelling at you for spilling your wine, because it’ll roll right off of his back.
  6. They’re extroverted. Dog lovers tend to be more extroverted than cat lovers. So if you want a boyfriend who isn’t afraid to start a conversation with a stranger, head to a party, or go after his dreams, then you should find yourself a man with a dog.
  7. They’re selfless. Okay, not all dog owners are selfless. However, if he’s taking good care of another living creature, then he can’t be all that selfish. He needs to put his animal first to keep it healthy.
  8. They’re active. Most dog owners are pretty active, because they make sure to take their pets on walks everyday. Even if he doesn’t walk his dog, he needs to play with it every once in a while, which means he’ll give his arm a workout by continuously throwing a ball.
  9. They’re loving. Dogs love to lick and play and cuddle. That means a man with a dog will be used to showing affection. He won’t hesitate to show you how much he loves you, because his pet has taught him the best way to do just that.
  10. They own a dog. There’s no better benefit of dating a dog lover. Since your man has a dog of his own, it means you get to see a wagging tail whenever you walk through his front door.
