It’s easy enough to pop into a Dunkin’ location and pick up a couple (or a couple dozen) of your favorite donuts, but where’s the fun in that? Now that we’re all stuck at home and bored out of our minds, Dunkin’s DIY donut kits might be the perfect way to express your creativity and enjoy one of the best sugary treats.
- What a genius idea! The idea for Dunkin’s donut kits came about after Norma Valkenaar, an employee at a California Dunkin’, asked her bosses if she could bring home a few donuts, frosting, and some sprinkles for her nephews. Her request led franchisee Matt Cobo to begin making and selling the DIY kits in his Walnut Creek and Concord locations.
- Dunkin’s donut kits come with everything you need to get started. There are two options for the kits, one with four plain donuts and one with nine. Each comes with three pots of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry frosting, and three pots of chocolate, strawberry, and rainbow sprinkles. The four box variety sells for $7.99 and the nine box is $15.99.
- This is how you brighten up someone’s day. As Cobo explained in a post on Dunkin’s Facebook page, “This is our small way of trying to brighten someone’s day. The simple joy of getting to create your own donut can make kids light up, and if we can be a part of creating that moment, that makes us happy.” Works for me!
- Sadly, this isn’t available at all Dunkin’ locations. Donut kits aren’t available at every Dunkin’ location but more and more stores are offering them up. Check your local stores to see if they have them and if not, beg them to put donut kits on the menu because they look amazing and we all need more DIY food-related projects. Seriously, banana bread is getting old.
