Ed Sheeran Says ‘South Park’ Episode About Gingers ‘Ruined His Life’

Ed Sheeran has said that an episode of South Park about people with red hair “ruined his life.” Sheeran, who infamously has a whole head full of ginger hair, claimed that he never had a problem with his hair color until the episode aired in 2005, at which point everyone just let loose on the bullying.

  1. The episode was called “Ginger Kids.” In it, Cartman thinks he has “gingervitis” and says that having the gene for red hair is a “curse.” It’s the entire focus of the episode and Cartman’s attitude seems to have crossed over into real-life attitudes.
  2. Sheeran opened up about it on Slam Radio Sheeran. He revealed that while people in England always sort of made fun of red hair, it was never a thing in America before the South Park episode. “Having red hair in England was always a thing that people took the p*** out of you for. But it was never something in America. People never knew what a ginger was in America,” he explained. “That episode of South Park f***ing ruined my life. I was going to America and everyone was like, ‘I love your hair dude.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, people like my hair?’ And then I remember that episode coming out and that was just it worldwide for the rest of my life.”
  3. That being said, he still loves South Park. He doesn’t hold anything against the show’s creators and said that if they ever wanted him to, he’d love to voice one of the characters if possible. I’m sure they’d love to have him if that ever comes about.
