Elderly Couple Arrested With 60 Pounds Of Marijuana They Claimed Was For Christmas Presents York County Sheriff's Department

An elderly couple was caught with 60 pounds of marijuana while driving in Nebraska which they claimed was to be given as Christmas gifts. Patrick Jiron, 80, and Barbara Jiron, 83, hail from northern California and said they were on their way to see family in Boston and Vermont. The street value of the weed officers seized was said to be worth $300,000.

  1. Sheriffs in York County pulled the couple over for driving offenses. They realized that the couple’s pickup truck was driving over the center line and that the driver didn’t signal when changing lanes. When they stopped the couple, that’s when they got the strong whiff of marijuana. Oops!
  2. Patrick admitted to having contraband in the vehicle. Officers then called in the K-9 unit to search the Toyota Tacoma and found not only the 60 pounds of marijuana under the pickup topper but also several containers of concentrated THC.
  3. All the weed was going to be Christmas presents. That’s what the couple told officers when questioned, according to a statement Lieutenant Paul Vbrka gave to the York News-Times. Looks like there are going to be some disappointed people come Christmas morning when their stockings are empty!
  4. The Jirons are now facing felony charges. Not only are they facing charges of possession of pot with the intention to deliver but also charges for failing to pay for Nebraska’s drug tax stamp, which is required as evidence that the tax has been settled.
  5. A month later, they were arrested again. Weirdly enough, it happened in the same vehicle on the same road just a few counties over. This time, they were accused of carrying drug money after they were found with a duffel bag containing $18,000 and a garbage bag containing marijuana residue. Yikes!
