As far as toys go, LEGOs are pretty awesome. Those tiny little bricks may hurt like a mother when you accidentally step on one, but they also make it possible to build some of the most incredible and impressive creations out there. They’re a great bonding experience for parents and kids or even siblings and most of all, they’re a whole lot of fun. However, this flexible LEGO tape just changed the game and elevated it to a whole new level.
- The tape is by a company called Nimuno. Back in 2017, Nimuno launched an IndieGoGo campaign to fund their flexible building block tape that eventually raised about $1.5 million from nearly 43,000Â people around the world who were desperate to get their hands on the stuff. And why wouldn’t they? It’s awesome.
- Flexible LEGO tape lets you build anywhere you want. There are so many advantages to this product. For one, it can be cut down to size depending on where you want to put it, so whether you want a really long strip or a short one, you can customize it to your liking. Not just that, but because it’s technically tape, you can stick it anywhere, meaning you can build diagonally or even upside down. You can even build on curved surfaces.
- So how does it work? In essence, Nimuno’s tape is a long strip of rubber with reusable adhesive on one side and LEGO-friendly studs on the other. You cut the strip size you want, apply the adhesive size to the surface you want to build upon, and go crazy with your LEGOs. It’s almost genius in its simplicity.
- The tape was invented by Anine Kirsten and Max Basler. The two industrial designers from Cape Town, South Africa, have been working with LEGOs for ages. However, they also see the “creative potential” the flexible tape has for consumers both young and old, hence their introduction of Loops, which is what they’re officially calling the product.
