Florida Woman Arrested After Shooting Dog In Head With Crossbow

WARNING: This post may contain disturbing images/content that will upset some readers.

A Florida woman has been charged with animal cruelty after shooting a dog in the head with a crossbow. Nassau County resident Carey Wilson, 37, claims that she shot the arrow in an attempt to “scare off” Unicorn the Labrador and that she didn’t actually mean to hit him. Sure, sounds legit.

  1. Thankfully, Unicorn is okay. The arrow ricocheted off his skull after piercing the skin and was later removed by a vet and Unicorn is okay and will make a full recovery. That doesn’t excuse Carey Wilson’s actions, of course, but it is somewhat of a relief to know that he’s alright.
  2. Wilson claims it was all an accident. According to Action News Jax, Wilson wasn’t trying to hurt Unicorn, she was “trying to get a message across.” After all, the dog had dared to pee on her car tire. It wasn’t acting aggressively, according to bystanders. “The dog doesn’t want to leave, so I grabbed a crossbow, my intentions were not to kill the dog, but to try to get the message across, ‘Get out the yard,'” Wilson said. “My goal was not to hit the dog directly. I was trying to scare it off.” That’s called animal cruelty, love.
  3. She made some other bogus claims too. Carey Wilson said that somehow, Unicorn had repeatedly appeared in her fenced-in yard killing animal and once, the dog even lunged towards her daughter, who has mobility issues. No one could substantiate these claims and this was not happening at the time of the animal cruelty instance. There’s also the fact that no calls from her address had ever been made to animal control about Unicorn.
  4. Now Unicorn is looking for a new home. His previous owners surrendered him to a local shelter since they couldn’t afford his medical bills following the attack by Wilson. “It’s rough,” Nick Sweat said. “We enjoyed the dog. He’s a good dog, he’s a family dog, wouldn’t hurt anybody.” Now, Unicorn will have to look for a new home.
  5. Wilson is sorry… that she got caught. Carey Wilson is guilty of animal cruelty and no doubt a court will find her guilty of that crime, though it’s currently under investigation. Now that she’s been caught, she somewhat regrets her actions. “It was extreme,” Wilson admitted. “I wish there was a different outcome.”
