A 70-year-old Florida woman is facing serious charges after she hit and killed her husband while driving under the influence. Sally Gore was said to have been looking for the couple’s lost dog and was driving the car while under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred, per Click Orlando. Sadly, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
A witness called 911 after seeing the crash happen.
Palm Bay police rushed to the scene outside a home in the city at around 9:40 p.m. on Friday, October 20. The 911 caller told the dispatcher that an unresponsive man was lying in the road and was bleeding from the head. The caller added that a woman on the scene smelled like alcohol and that she claimed she was looking “for their dog which they believed ran away.”
When they arrived, they found Sally Gore standing with the Honda Ridgeline SUV, which was stopped in the middle of the road. Gore’s husband was lying in the street near their driveway and was pronounced dead at the scene.
They noted that his body appeared to have vehicle impact marks on it, and the car’s undercarriage had been affected by the accident.
Sally Gore couldn’t even talk to police.
When authorities interviewed Gore, they noted that she stank of alcohol just as the 911 caller had reported. They added that her speech was slurred and it was clear she was under the influence.
She claimed that she and her husband had gone out to dinner and that when they returned home, they realized that the front gate was open and thought that the dog must have escaped, as has happened many times before.
The husband decided to get out and look for the dog on foot while Sally Gore would drive around to see if she could spot him. When he got out, she backed the car up and drove around the block. When she got back, she saw a woman and “observed a body in the street.” She recognized it was her husband but said she never felt any kind of impact to indicate she might have hit him.

She claimed she had two glasses of wine at dinner.
When officers gave her a sobriety test, she had a BAC reading of 0.120. The legal. limit is 0.08. Police added that they did indeed find surveillance footage of a woman driving by a community center while shouting for a dog. However, they still believe that Gore was behind the wheel of the car that hit her husband. It seems she ran into him as she backed out of the driveway, causing the fatal injuries that left him dead.
Gore was arrested and is facing charges including DUI and DUI causing death.
