Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins Dead At Age 50, Band Announces

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has died at 50. The band announced his passing on Twitter late Friday after Hawkins was found dead in a Colombian hotel room as fans stood outside in shock and mourning. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever,” the band shared.

  1. Foo Fighters were due to perform on Friday. Their performance at the Picnic Stereo Festival in Bogotá, Colombia was later canceled after the tragic news was announced. Earlier this month, they played at Lollapalooza Chile on March 18 and Lollapalooza Argentina on March 20. They are still scheduled to headline Lollapalooza Brasil on Sunday, though it seems unlikely that will go ahead.
  2. Very few details have emerged about Hawkins’ death. While police cars, an ambulance, and fans stood outside the Four Seasons Casa Medina Hotel where Hawkins was staying on Friday, authorities in Colombia have declined to say much about what happened (or what they believe happened), likely because much is still unknown. However, the US Embassy in Bogota did express their condolences.
  3. However, the police recently released a statement. As per the statement made by the Metropolitan Police of Bogota and cited by multiple news outlets in Colombia: “According to those close to him, the death could be related to the consumption of drugs.” However, at that point, this is purely conjecture and has not been confirmed. As the police were quick to point out: “The cause of death has yet to be established.”
