Freaky Friday 2 Is Officially Happening With Lindsay Lohan And Jamie Lee Curtis Disney/Buena Vista Pictures

Back in October 2022, Jamie Lee Curtis told “The View” hosts that she’d be totally game for teaming back up with Lindsay Lohan for a follow-up to their 2003 remake of “Freaky Friday.” While her idea for the plot was a bit questionable (if not extremely amusing), it seems like the powers that be took notice. Now, 20 years after its release, “Freaky Friday 2” is officially in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Lohan and Curtis will reprise their original roles as a mother and daughter who swap bodies. The script is currently being written by Elyse Hollander, a relatively new scriptwriter who started out as an assistant to Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Late last year, Curtis told the New York Times that “Freaky Friday” is one of the movies she’s continually asked about by fans and journalists alike. Luckily, it’s always had a special place in her heart too. “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made,’” she said.

Her enthusiasm for the project rubbed off on Lohan, who said she was “excited” about the prospect of revisiting “Freaky Friday.”

Admittedly, “Freaky Friday 2” is still in the very early stages, and there’s no guarantee the sequel will ever actually make it to our screens. However, given that both actresses are totally on board and the fans clearly want it too, it stands a pretty good chance of happening.

“Freaky Friday” made more than $110 million at the domestic box office and $50.5 million internationally, making it an incredibly successful outing for Disney. It currently has 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, showing just how popular it is among fans and critics alike. No doubt the follow-up would be just as popular with audiences across the world.
