Georgia Teen In ICU After 2 Pit Bulls Viciously Maul Her And Rip Her Scalp Off

A Georgia teen is in intensive care after she was viciously attacked by two pit bulls while walking down the street she lives on with her grandparents in Winder. The dogs were said to have escaped from the owner’s yard before chasing and mauling 15-year-old Joslyn Stinchcomb so badly, they ripped her scalp from her head.

  1. The attack was still happening when police arrived. When a neighbor heard the screaming outside, they immediately called 911. When police responded, one pitbull was seen with its jaws clenched around Joslyn’s neck while the other was biting her head, according to Classic City News. The girl was face-down on the curb at the time.
  2. The dogs were taken into custody and euthanized soon after. When one of the dogs began approaching the officer, he fired his gun at the dog and it ran off, injured. This got the other dog to let go of its grip on Joslyn and run back towards its house, where both dogs were later recovered by Barrow County Animal Control and euthanized. While the owner wasn’t home at the time of the attack, 29-year-old Alexandria Torregrossa was arrested for reckless conduct when she returned.
  3. Joslyn was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. There, she was placed on a ventilator due to the extensive damage to her trachea, according to her aunt, Charity Stinchcomb Montgomery, who has been updating supporters on the teen’s condition via the Prayers For Joslyn Facebook page.
  4. The injuries Joslyn sustained were horrendous. She not only lost her hair after one of the dogs ripped off her scalp but she also lost an ear. Surgeons were later able to reattach the ear, but it’s unclear whether or not it will actually work/she will actually be able to hear out of it. She also suffered so much nerve damage that it “may affect her smile, her blinking and other facial expressions,” Montgomery said.
  5. So far, Joslyn has undergone 13 surgeries. As per a Facebook update posted on September 22, Joslyn is slowly improving. “We here at home are hoping for the infection to be gone so the skin grafts can begin. Everyone please continue to pray for that. Some great news over the past few days though. Joslyn’s Ng tube was taken out and her trache has been capped and it seems like J can breath [sic] well out if her nose and mouth. She has graduated off of her anxiety and sleep meds, so there are blessings abound for her. Joslyn even told her mom she is feeling stronger!” She has a very long road ahead of her, but here’s hoping she continues to improve!
