‘Glee’ Star Naya Rivera Missing And Possibly Dead After Lake Accident

Former Glee star Naya Rivera is feared dead after going missing during a boat outing with her 4-year-old son, Josey. Rivera and the little boy had gone for a day out on Lake Piru in Los Padres National Forest in California’s Ventura County on Wednesday, July 8. However, after she failed to return a rented boat at the cut-off time, her son was found alone in the water with Rivera nowhere to be found.

  1. Naya Rivera took her son for a swim but never returned. As per CBS Los Angeles, Josey told authorities that he and his mother had gone for a swim but that Rivera failed to return to the boat. She wasn’t wearing a life jacket but the child was. Thankfully, the little boy was safe and completely unharmed.
  2. Authorities immediately began to search Lake Piru. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department was called out shortly after 4 p.m. local time and a search began to locate Rivera. However, the search and rescue operation was unable to find her despite using helicopters and drones with advanced technology.
  3. The search will continue on Thursday, July 9. The Sheriff’s Office vowed to continue the SAR operation at first light on Thursday, bringing in more helicopters and drones as well as a diving team that could search the water itself to look for Rivera.
  4. Rivera was a dedicated mom. Just a day before the accident, Rivera posted a photo of herself and her son on Instagram with the caption “Just the two of us.” Asked about her experience with motherhood in an interview with Momtastic, Rivera gushed, “The unconditional love. You hear about it and you think: ‘Well, obviously I’m going to love my child.’ But it’s so deep. Even after Josey goes to bed, I find myself thinking of him and looking at pictures of him and it almost brings me to tears half the time, because the love that I have for him is so amazing.”
  5. While many fear that Naya Rivera could be dead, many are holding out hope. While it seems unlikely that she will be found alive at this point, it’s always possible and many hope that’s what will happen. For the sake of her son, we have to keep our fingers crossed.
