I Got A Breast Reduction & It’s The Best Decision I’ve Ever Made

When I was 20 years old, I had a breast reduction. I always had big boobs, but in college they started to become a hassle. By the summer before junior year, I was an E and F cup size — yes, I had lopsided tits. They were massive.

My back was always hurting and running becoming nearly impossible, but those weren’t the reasons I had the surgery done. Even though big boobs are every girl’s life goal in middle school, here’s a list of confessions of a girl who “slapped God in the face,” as my guy friends call it, and loves her new perky C-cup boobs:

  1. My breaking point came when I couldn’t find a bra in my size. I was shopping at Victoria’s Secret and I was in the “cute bra” section. A sales associate came up to me and asked me if I wanted her to measure my chest so I could get the right size. I agreed and after she wrapped the measure tape around my bust, she looked at me and frowned before leading me to a lone table in the back with only plain beige, black, and white bras. I was 20 years old and wanted lace and sex appeal in my undergarments. I walked out and immediately and called my mom and asked if I could contact a surgeon.
  2. My ex was a big reason I had the surgery done. My boyfriend at the time made it very clear and obvious that he was excited for my surgery because he wanted me to have smaller boobs and smaller nipples. At the time, I thought he was just being supportive, encouraging, and wanting what was best for me, but in reality, he just wanted new tits to play with.
  3. I got new nipples. Well, kind of. It was still my skin and nipple, but they were reconstructed to be a suitable size for my new tatas. Isn’t modern medicine great?
  4. I had a malfunction. I was told to not work out for at least six weeks. I did an ab workout about a week and a half too early and I popped one of the stitches. There was a little opening on the scar and my friends and I went to the ER because I’m a hypochondriac. They gave me solution to rub on the opening 3 times a day and I had to keep it bandaged, but after about two weeks, the opening healed itself.
  5. I passed out when I saw myself post-surgery. This was the first and only surgery I’d ever gone through, so when it was time for me to un-bandage myself and shower, I was in for a complete shock. Seeing my chest with black stitches outlining every nook and cranny was something that overwhelmed me like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Luckily, my mom was in the bathroom to help me shower and caught me before my head hit the ground.
  6. I almost cancelled. The morning of the surgery, my parents and I had to get there at 5 a.m. even though the surgery wasn’t scheduled until 11 a.m. There was so much prep that needed to be done, which also meant there was a lot of time for me to just sit there and think. I begged my parents to take me home, but luckily for me, they wouldn’t. They reminded me how worth it the surgery was going to be, and I’m so glad they did.
  7. I cried the day of surgery. Cried for my old boobs, that is! I had to do a pre-surgery shower with this special soap and I took that time to really appreciate my huge boobs one last time. While that goodbye was sentimental, I don’t miss them now!
  8. My scars are gone. The incision was made around the nipple and a straight line down to the bottom of my breast and then a small curved line at my under boob. While I was overwhelmed by the initial look of the stitches, the scars have completely faded.
  9. The doctor gave me a “lift”. My boobs pre-surgery had sagged a bit over time, so while the doctor was in there, he gave my boobs a little lift. At first they were super stiff, but after a few months, they loosened up a bit to look perky, but natural.
  10. First thing I did was buy new bras. I had to be in this hideous sports bra thing for the first few weeks post-surgery, but that didn’t stop me from ordering 12 new bras as soon as I was off the pain medication enough to be able to be trusted with my debit card.
  11. I love my new boobs. Not to toot my own horn, but they’re amazing. Best decision I’ve ever made.
