This Grandma Rocks Out On The Drums To Disturbed’s ‘Down With The Sickness’

When you picture your grandma (or any grandma, really), you probably don’t imagine her drumming along to rock music and being a total badass. However, that’s exactly what Dorothea Taylor does on a daily basis. The grandmother, church organist, and music teacher is not only a talented musician but she doesn’t shy away from rocking out.

  1. Dorothea has been playing the drums for 55 years. You don’t become the “Godmother of Drumming” overnight, and Dorothea is definitely no johnny-come-lately. She’s got more than half a century of experience behind her and she’s happy to share that knowledge with others via private instruction. I’d love to take drumming lessons from this grandma!!
  2. She’s proof that you can never judge a book by its cover. While Dorothea may not fit the profile of your standard drummer, that just goes to show that we need to stay open-minded about people. She’s incredibly talented and she has a real passion for the music which is inspiring to witness.
  3. Who says a drumming grandma can’t rock a Disturbed song? She did an absolutely killer rendition of the song ‘Down with the Sickness’ and did it total justice and then some! The video illustrates just how much resistance she’s faced as a drummer, with people regularly ushering her towards the pianos, violins, and organs before she sits down behind the drums and absolutely thrashes it. It’s so good!
  4. We should all hope to end up like Dorothea. While we may not be drummers ourselves, it’s the message she’s sending to the world that we should all carry with us: when you have a passion for something, even if you don’t fit the stereotypical idea of what you should look or be like to practice it, you go for it anyway confidently and you can do anything. The sky is the limit, and this drumming grandma is downright killing it.
