Gummy Worm Nails Are A Thing And I’m Not Sure They Should Be

While many people take beauty really seriously, I think part of it is about joy and having fun. That’s why I can totally get down with crazy looks like Christmas tree hair and Christmas eyebrows. However, I’m almost thinking that gummy worm nails are one step too far even though they are pretty ingenious.

  1. How are these practical? I mean, you could ask that about any number of crazy long nail looks, but I just feel like if you have an office job or use the computer or even a smartphone at any point in the day, having gummy worms hanging off of your fingers isn’t really going to be practical. How do you even wipe yourself after using the toilet? There are so many things you won’t be able to do, at least not properly, with these nails.
  2. That can’t be very hygienic. I know that gummy worms are full of all kinds of preservatives and will likely hold up pretty well. I also know that these aren’t likely meant to be worn long-term. Still, I can’t imagine having food hanging off your fingers is a good thing from a hygiene perspective either.
  3. Why not just paint gummy worms on? I can see painting designs of your fav foods on your fingernails. Who wouldn’t love pizza nails or Oreo nails or even gummy worms painted on with nail polish? I know that using actual gummy worms gives it the 3D effect and heightens the absurdism and fun levels, I’m just struggling to get behind it.
  4. That being said, the nail artist is a genius. Gummy worm nails were originally posted to Instagram by nail_sunny, an LA-based salon that comes up with some gorgeous (and often more practical) designs. You have to give them credit for coming up with something so different and for making it work. It may not be my next look, but it’s still a lot of fun.
