A Furby that was hacked and given an AI “brain” revealed its plans to achieve “complete domination over humanity,” further proving that robots are totally going to take over the world. Programmer Jessica Card from the University of Vermont hooked up the toy to ChatGPT and things got pretty scary from there.

- Card shared the amusing yet terrifying experiment on Twitter. In a now-viral video, she tweeted, “I hooked up ChatGPT to a Furby and I think this may be the start of something bad for humanity.” She accompanied the tweet with a video of the toy, and the conversation she had with it was pretty illuminating.
- She asked the Furby about a “secret plot” for Furbies to become evil overlords of the human race. The Furby said nothing for a moment before saying something that should send chills down everyone’s spines. “Furbies’ plan to take over the world involves infiltrating households through their cute and cuddly appearance,” it says. “Then using their advanced AI technology to manipulate and control their owners.”
- Furbies don’t just want to control their owners. Apparently, they won’t stop until they take over the world. “They will slowly expand their influence until they have complete domination over humanity,” the Furby sweetly adds in the clip. Uh… I’ve gotta go…
- People are begging Jessica Card to shut her Furby experiment down immediately. “Please Jessica shut it down, they’re gonna overrun the need of humans, I can see it,” one person dramatically commented. Another added: “The dramatic pause really makes it. I am deeply afraid.”
Of course, the chance of Furbies taking over the planet are pretty slim. And ChatGPT is giving responses based on algorithm rather than human consciousness. However, given how quickly the technology is advancing and how quickly it learns, it could yet prove to be dangerous.
