A lot of people don’t like snakes – in fact, they’re deathly afraid of them. I kinda get it. They’re scaly, slithery, and have those weird (or cool, depending on how you look at it!) tongues with the slit up the middle, so that’s enough to freak a lot of people out. For those people, and for those who love snakes but also just love to laugh, allow me to present a previously unknown (at least to me) trend: hats on snakes.

- Oh my God, why is this a thing? I’m not asking because I don’t love it, I’m asking because I do! I know we dress up cats and dogs, often against their will, but who would ever have thought of dressing up a snake? I suppose it’s not the first thing to come to mind given that you wouldn’t imagine a snake would take very kindly to it, but these lovely little guys and gals seem to love it!
- The online community has been around for nearly a decade. The SnakesWithHats sub on Reddit has apparently been around since 2011-2012, so clearly this isn’t a new thing! The group’s moderator, DisasterLlama, real name Emma, told Bored Panda that she started the sub to show off her own pet’s chapeaus and it grew from there. “The community was started around 2011-2012, and it all began with my snake Lola, who was very docile, wearing some hats. Soon, more and more people started to post pictures as well, and the page quickly grew large,” she explained.
- I wouldn’t recommend trying this on any old snake. If you do have a pet snake, only you know if it’s docile enough to be wearing a hat. Don’t put yourself in danger by trying to dress up your snake just for the LOLs. However, if they are cool with it, I say have at it. Then put the pictures online so I can see them!
