He’s Not Irreplaceable—There Are 7.6 Billion People On The Planet

At one time or another, we’ve all dated an arrogant a-hole—you know, the guy who thinks he can do no wrong and plays with your emotions just because he can. It might be cliche, but the phrase “there are plenty more fish in the sea” is so true. If you’re dating this type of guy or you’ve had the good sense to already break up with him, I’m here to tell you not to worry. Contrary to what he might think, he’s totally replaceable.

  1. You’ve had previous boyfriends. Your track record in the romantic department is good. If you’ve had boyfriends in the past, it’s likely that you’ll have boyfriends in the future. Wipe your tears, girl—it’s inevitable that more guys are going to come your way sooner rather than later.
  2. It’s naive to think you’ll never love again. With your past relationships, you probably assumed that they were going to last forever… or at least last longer than what they actually did. The fact of the matter is, if you’ve loved before, you’ll love again. You just have to keep an open mind, an open heart, and have faith in the universe, as cheesy as that sounds.
  3. There are so many different guys out there. Tall guys, short guys, guys who have eaten too many pies over the holidays—you name it, there’s an abundance of variety out there in the big, wide world. As well as a range of looks, there’s a range of personalities and a range of men who have come from unusual backgrounds. If there are plenty of fish in the sea, you’d better get swimmin’, little fish. Whole new ponds await you.
  4. There are better guys out there. As well as there being many other different types of guys in the world, there are also better guys out there. Guys who won’t treat you like crap or act like they’re superior to you and who wouldn’t even dream of letting you go. Everybody has flaws for sure, but it’s important that his weaknesses offset your strengths and vice versa. If you’re a square peg in a round hole (a saying thanks to Kate Winslet’s character from The Holiday) then it would have never worked out anyway.
  5. You deserve to be treated like you’re irreplaceable. Newsflash, ladies: you deserve to be doted on and not taken for granted in your relationship. You deserve someone who’s proud to stand next to you and call you his girlfriend, not some loser who thinks he’s better than you and can pick you up and drop you at any given time. You need to have enough confidence in yourself to break away from these types of guys because they’re not good for you or your self-esteem.
  6. Arrogance is unacceptable. It’s good for both of you to feel secure in your relationship, but there’s no need for him to become arrogant about his position. If he thinks he’s irreplaceable, it’s likely because he knows how much you care for him and he doesn’t feel the same way or his feelings don’t quite match up. And what’s worse, he uses the depth of your feelings against you to get his own way and walk all over you. It’s completely out of order and you need to have the strength to tell him so.
  7. You don’t need a guy who’s going to make a fool out of you. You don’t need a guy in your life who thinks he’s irreplaceable, therefore it’s okay to play with your emotions just because he can and he finds it amusing. If he’s continuing to hurt you all the time and doesn’t seem to care, then what kind of person does that make him anyway? I’ll tell you—a person who you don’t need in your life.
  8. He’s never going to change. It’s easy to hang onto his false promises and try to believe him when he says he’s going to change. But girl, trust me—he’ll never change. If he’s acting like he’s irreplaceable now, he’s always going to act that way. He’s always going to try and take you for granted. It’s better to throw him into the trash can now. Boy, bye.
  9. The right guy will return your love. If he’s truly the right guy for you, he’ll make you feel like a million bucks. He’ll not only treat you superbly but he’ll make you feel like you’re the only lady in the universe for him. And that’s a guy who you’re going to want to hang onto.
