Hiker Lost On Mountain For 24 Hours Ignored Calls From Rescuers Because Of Unknown Number

A hiker who got lost on a mountain trail for roughly 24 hours never answered calls from rescue crews because he didn’t recognize the phone number. While he’s totally safe now and made it back to his car the following morning, people are tickled at how relatable his story actually was.

  1. The hiker was reported missing after he never came back from a trek. He was up on Mount Elbert in Colorado, which is the highest summit of the Rocky Mountains, Lake County Search and Rescue said. When he never came back, he was reported missing.
  2. Crews went out to search for him. Rescue crews went out looking for him in an area where many hikers tend to get lost, but it wasn’t until later that they realized the man had already returned back to where he’d been staying.
  3. The man didn’t bother to answer their calls. “One notable take-away is that the subject ignored repeated phone calls from us because they didn’t recognize the number,” officials said in a press release. “If you’re overdue according to your itinerary, and you start getting repeated calls from an unknown number, please answer the phone.”
  4. It seems like the hiker didn’t really mind being “lost.” After all, it was only about 24 hours and he lost sight of the trail he was on when it got dark. Once the sun was up again, he managed to make it back to his car, no harm done.
