Iceland Will Broadcast Your Stress Screams In Its Scenic Waterfalls And Glaciers

When you’re stressed and frustrated, sometimes all you want to do is go to a wide-open space and scream at the top of your lungs to let it all out. That may not always be possible, but you can sort of get the same experience by proxy because Iceland is offering to broadcast your howls of existential dread over their gorgeous mountains, waterfalls, and other scenic locations.

  1. It’s all about promoting tourism. The campaign comes from a company called Promote Island, who said in a statement, “You’ve been through a lot this year and it looks like you need the perfect place to let your frustrations out. Record your scream and we’ll release it in Iceland’s beautiful, wide-open spaces.” Now that’s an offer I can’t refuse!
  2. Plenty of people have done this already. A website for the screaming initiative called “Looks like you need to let it out” features loads of people at the end of their tether shouting into the void in several beautiful locations around Iceland via a giant loudspeaker installed in each place.
  3. It’s totally free and really easy to do. All you have to do is scroll through the locations on the website and once you find the one you want, you record your own scream which will then be broadcast through the speaker and potentially even archived on the website so you can check back in and re-listen whenever the urge strikes. Or, you know, you could just scream all over again.
  4. Scream therapy can be incredibly therapeutic. For people like me who tend to hold everything in, screaming can be incredibly stress- and anxiety-relieving. It sounds crazy but it’s totally true and I highly recommend it.
  5. Also, you should visit Iceland if you haven’t already. It’s an incredibly beautiful country with friendly people and sights that will blow your mind and make you feel like you’re on a whole other planet. Also, they’ve done pretty well fighting off COVID. “We want to draw prospective tourists’ attention to the fact that it’s relatively safe to travel to Iceland and that here you can experience beautiful nature without crowds, which is something that we think people will seek out when interest in travel increases again,” Sigríður Dögg Guðmundsdóttir, the tourism director for Promote Iceland, said according to Iceland Review. “It is important to draw attention to Iceland’s advantages now. People are dreaming about the time when it will be possible to travel again and even planning trips in the near future. We want to be a part of that conversation.”
