The Iconic Volkswagen Bus Is Making An Environmentally Friendly Comeback Volkswagen

If you’ve ever dreamed of having your very own Volkswagen bus, you’re not alone. The classic minibus was iconic in the ’70s and is still extremely popular with car collectors today. However, it hasn’t had an update in decades… until now. VW is set to unveil a new version called the I.D. Buzz that looks a whole lot like the original but with pretty impressive new specs.

  1. Volkswagen has faced its share of controversy. Back in 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency issued a violation against the company, claiming that VW programs its engines to detect when the vehicle is undergoing any kind of test via a special software that allowed it to then operate at a passable level of emissions before reverting back to much more harmful levels. Yikes!
  2. The new VW Microbus is more eco-friendly. The I.D. Buzz is said to be an all-electric bus that’s due to go into production in 2022, according to Forbes. Volkswagen hopes that the new concept car will make serious strides in helping to make up for their past mistakes. “This campaign is for all those we disappointed, and all of those who stayed with us, those who worked like crazy to keep us moving forward and for all of those who stopped caring,” he said. “We have a responsibility to do better, to be greater and we intend to shoulder that responsibility.”
  3. The new microbus will utilize Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive (MEB). Even better, the car’s battery and electric motors will both be installed in the bus’s floor, allowing the vehicle to retain its classic flat-nosed front and also provide more room for passengers and storage. It also boasts some pretty impressive safety standards.
  4. It’s not short on power. In its initial concept, the Volkswagen Microbus claimed to have 369 hp from dual motors in the front and rear axle, which is equal to an all-wheel drive Tesla. They also say that you can drive up to 270 miles on electricity alone. They hope to introduce a self-driving function in the future, but it remains to be seen as to whether that will be part of the initial run.
