An Iowa woman was arrested after she sprayed a “flammable substance” on another woman during an argument and set her on fire. Linsy Maves, 28 is said to have become enraged during the altercation that led to 37-year-old Christine Weilage being set alight at a residence on North 15th Street, according to a statement from the Council Bluffs Police Department. Maves has since been arrested for the attack.
- Weilage was left with “severe burns” on her body. An arrest affidavit revealed that Maves “allegedly sprayed a flammable substance on Weilage and then lit her on fire,” at which point a witness intervened and attempted to put the fire out. While that witness was ultimately successful, Weilage didn’t escape without serious harm.
- Maves continued her attack while Weilage was on fire. As the victim’s body burned, Maves is said to have hit the woman in the face with an unknown object, causing further injury. Maves ran away from the scene before police arrived.
- Weilage was flown to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for treatment. Before she was able to get much-needed help, she was forced to crawl two blocks from the residence where the attack happened to a local homeless shelter to call the police, WOWT-TV reports. The extent of her injuries is unknown but believed to be serious.
- Maves has since been arrested and charged. Council Bluff Police were able to take her into custody without incident. They eventually charged her with attempted murder, first-degree arson, and willful injury. She’s being held on $25,000 bond.
