At the risk of stating the obvious, guys can be kind of hopeless sometimes. While it’s a generalization that’s certainly not true across the board—just like how not all women are desperate to get married and have kids—it’s been scientifically proven that women mature faster than men, and the abundance of man-children in the dating scene (and the world at large) is frustrating, to say the least. Thankfully, Jennifer Lopez feels our pain. In fact, she’s pretty sure that dudes are “useless” until well into their thirties. AMEN!
In an episode of Tinder’s Swipe Sessions, JLo helped 29-year-old Brooke sort through her matches to find a potential date. Brooke was frustrated with the lack of decent options, particularly since she was looking for a rugged, mountain man type who could chop wood. JLo’s take? Eh, men are no good anyway until they’re at least 33.
Mind you, Tinder’s probably not the best place to be looking for a mature dude who’s looking for a committed relationship, but I guess it’s possible. Nevertheless, JLo’s point still stands. Again, it’s a bit of a stereotype, but it’s pretty tough to find a guy who’s not only willing but actually ready to settle down before he hits his thirties. It’s one thing for a guy to say he’s down for something real, but actually being prepared for it—mentally, emotionally, financially, etc.—is a whole different story.
Granted, 33 does seem like a pretty particular age marker for a guy to ditch his immature ways and suddenly get awesome, but her observation does seem to hold pretty true. Plus, it doesn’t mean your twenties can’t be full of some interesting experiences in the dating world—it just means it’ll probably be a while before you find “The One.”
