Johnny Depp has arrived in Paris to begin shooting his first movie in three years. The actor, who recently won his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, will play the French king Louis XV in Maïwenn Le Besco’s new historical drama, Jeanne du Barry.

- Depp is expected to be in Paris for several months. He was seen arriving in Paris on Monday, June 27. In photos obtained by Metro, the actor was escorted to his hotel by security personnel. It’s believed that Jeanne du Barry will film at the Palace of Versailles and at several locations around Paris for three months.
- Not much is known about the movie’s plot. It’s unclear what exactly will happen in the film other than Johnny Depp playing Louis XV, but the former French king reigned for 59 years, from 1715 to 1774. At the end of his rule, he was accused of corruption and he died in disgrace.
- The last movie Depp did was in 2019. That was when he completed filming on Minimata, a largely panned film about war photographer W. Eugene Smith. MGM, the studio behind the movie, dropped Minimata, causing a major delay in release. When it was eventually released, it received very little fanfare and abysmal ticket sales.
- It’s unclear when Jeanne du Barry will be released. Johnny Depp fans will likely have a long wait before they get to see him in period gear as Louis XV. As production is only just about to start, it’s likely to be at least a couple of years before a cinematic release, and no release date has been set just yet. However, no doubt supporters of the actor will be glad to see him getting work again and will hope this is the beginning of an upwards trajectory for his career. Only time will tell if that’s the case.
