A Canadian teenager got incredibly lucky when she won $48 million on the very first lottery ticket she ever bought. Juliette Lamour had just turned 18 years old when she grabbed the ticket that just so happened to have the jackpot-winning numbers. She’s now said to be the youngest lottery winner to scoop such a huge prize.

Lamour said her decision to buy a ticket was totally coincidental, telling Global News that her grandfather suggested doing it as a “fun” way to celebrate becoming a legal adult.

“I just turned 18 and my grandfather suggested I buy a lottery ticket for fun,” she said. “When I went to the store, I wasn’t sure what to ask for because I had never bought a ticket before, so I called my dad who told me to buy a LOTTO 6-49 Quick Pick.”

It’s clear Juliette Lamour’s life has changed overnight.

Understandably, she’s still in shock at having picked up such a huge prize.

“I still can’t believe I hit the Gold Ball jackpot on my very first lottery ticket!” she said, adding that she forgot she even bought the ticket at first. It wasn’t until her colleagues at work were discussing the winning ticket being sold in Sault Ste. Marie, her hometown, that she thought to have a look. You can imagine her shock when the numbers matched up.”

“My colleague fell to his knees in disbelief. He was yelling, in fact, everyone was yelling that I won $48 million!” she recalled.

Lamour isn’t being silly, however. She says she still plans to finish her studies at college before going on some “summer adventures.”

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has issued a statement after Lamour’s win, saying: “While there have been other 18-year-old lottery winners across Canada in recent years, no one has won as much as Juliette.”
