Kanye West Says He Will Run For President In 2020

Kanye West has announced plans to run for president in 2020. The rapper, who’s been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump in the past, used Independence Day to reveal to his Twitter followers his intention to add his name to the ballot this November. While it may sound like a joke to many, considering who’s in the White House right now, it’s not as ludicrous as it might seem.

  1. Kanye West’s message was simple. “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” he wrote. “I am running for president of the United States.” His post was accompanied by American flag emojis and the hashtag #2020VISION
  2. Of course Kim Kardashian retweeted it. She simply added another American flag, likely having visions of herself as First Lady, which would be yet another great tragedy for the country as well as a complete joke. Then again, given current events…
  3. Elon Musk is a fan. He endorsed Kanye West for president in reply to West’s tweet soon after, writing, “You have my full support!” Yikes.
  4. There are only four months to go before Election Day. Many states have already closed their ballot entries and West has said nothing about whether he’s actually begun filing paperwork or making any official moves to run for president. This is likely a pipe dream and not going to happen, but crazier things have, so who knows?
  5. Kanye West would run as an independent. He wouldn’t get a Democratic or Republican nomination so he would officially be an Independent candidate if he indeed did go through with running for president.
  6. Let’s be real: this should not happen. American politics have become a complete and utter shambles and a laughing stock of the world. Celebrities should not run the country. I can’t believe this has to be said but it’s clear that it does. Kanye West is not a politician. He has no political experience, no diplomacy or negotiation skills, and an inability to think and act logically as repeatedly demonstrated over the years. We don’t need another megalomaniac in the Oval Office once the current one is out.
