A cafe in Seoul, South Korea has brought cartoons to life with its 2D design that makes visitors feel like they’ve stepped into a drawing. Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20 is located in the Yeonman-dong district and is incredibly popular with locals and visitors alike who flock there poised to get a good Instagram shot. Can you blame them?
- The cafe was inspired by the hit Korean TV show W. The series, created by Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo, follows characters that get trapped between the real world and a cartoon one. Thus, the cafe makes visitors feel like they’ve stepped into a drawing themselves via optical illusions and it’s one of the coolest things ever.
- Literally everything looks like it’s right out of a cartoon. The cafe’s tables and chairs, menu boards, wallpaper, cutlery, and dishes all have the same 2D drawing design to complete the look and the effect is incredible. This has to be one of the coolest concepts ever.
- Yes, it’s an actual operational cafe. While it’s likely that your main reason for visiting would be for the incredible design and decor, it is actually a working cafe complete with delicious coffee and tea and plenty of cakes and other snacks if you arrive hungry. Getting to enjoy some food and drinks in such a cool environment only heightens the experience, that’s for sure!
- This is a really cool concept. There are a million and one cafes in the world and while plenty of them might be perfectly good, they lack a USP that would make choosing them over another location kinda pointless. That’s definitely not the case here. This Korean cafe not only stands out with the people of Seoul but with people from around the world who love seeking out new and unique experiences. Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20 definitely counts here!
