Kylie Jenner Is No Longer The Most Followed Woman On Instagram

Kylie Jenner is, without a doubt, one of the most famous women on the planet. For better or worse, she’s become a billionaire with a successful cosmetics business and a massive social media following at only 25 years old. However, while Kylie Jenner used to be the most followed woman on Instagram, she’s been dethroned by Selena Gomez.

At the moment, Kylie has 380 million followers on Instagram. Even her big sister Kim Kardashian has only 346 million, so that tells you just how big she is. However, despite how impressive that number is, Selena Gomez has now come out on top with a massive 381 million followers.

However, things aren’t exactly as they seem. Kylie Jenner has 380,392,448 followers at the time of writing. Selena has 381,032,672 followers, meaning the difference is actually around 640,000 rather than an actual million. That means things are pretty close and Kylie could take the lead again.

Selena Gomez is officially the most followed woman on Instagram

Gomez’s accomplishment is especially notable because she doesn’t spend much time on social media to begin with. This month, she told Vanity Fair that she actually deleted all social media apps on her phone besides TikTok for the sake of her mental health.

“I never got the chance to go to an actual high school. The world was my high school for the longest time, and I started getting inundated with information that I didn’t want,” she explained. “I went through a hard time in a breakup and I didn’t want to see any of the [feedback]—not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else.”

She added that while plenty of fans said nice things to her, the barrage of harassment she experienced just made the whole thing not worth it.

“There’d be thousands of really nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean one. People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, whatever. But these people get detailed,” she explained. “They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.”

It’s hard to say if Selena Gomez will be the most followed woman on Instagram for long. However, she probably won’t notice either way.
