A lot of guys (and girls for that matter) aren’t looking for anything serious, but that doesn’t mean they want to go without intimacy until they decide they’re ready to be in a relationship. It’s no secret that casual love-making is a pretty acceptable pastime these days. The key is to find that perfect situation where you’re both on the same page about your intentions. Unfortunately, there are a lot of guys out there who will say anything to get you undressed whether it’s the truth or not.

  1. “I’m single. I swear.” Most girls aren’t going to sleep with a guy if they suspect he has a girlfriend, so if a guy is dead set on cheating, he’s going to have to play the single dude for the night. If he’s made it to this point, he’s not going to cave and say, “Oh alright, I have a girlfriend.” He’s going to look you right in the eye and swear up and down he’s single.
  2. “I just want to cuddle.” The whole concept of “Netflix & chill” is based on giving hooking up a nickname that sounds non-threatening and completely innocent. Then if love-making just happens to occur, it was because you just couldn’t resist each other. It certainly wasn’t planned.
  3. “I think I’m in love with you.” I’m not sure how many girls this would actually work on, but there are definitely guys who will exaggerate their feelings for a girl in order to get close to her. If it seems too soon for him to be professing his love, then he most likely has an ulterior motive.
  4. “I’m bigger than average.” This really depends on his definition of average, and some of the time it might be true, but it’s a risk. You can always sneak a peek and if it’s not what you expected, make an excuse and get out of there.
  5. “I never do this.” He’s implying that he’s not the type to have casual encounters, but there’s something about you that is just so irresistible that he’s willing to break his rule. He wants you to feel special and think he sees something in you that he didn’t see in every other girl he could have brought home that night.
  6. “I won’t tell anyone.” If he thinks you’re hesitant to get intimate with him because you don’t want your friends or colleagues to know, then of course he’s going to promise he’ll keep it a secret. But you might want to get that in writing, so at least then you’ll be able to sue him later when he inevitably opens his big mouth.
  7. “You’re so {insert compliment here}.” Not that he doesn’t think you’re beautiful, hilarious, or brilliant. But he also knows flattery is likely to raise his chances of making love, so if he has to lay it on a little thick to close the deal, that’s exactly what he’s going to do.
  8. “I make a lot of money.” Guys think that all women are impressed by money, so even if he doesn’t say these exact words, he’ll leave little clues meant to help you figure out for yourself that he’s loaded. He might casually mention his downtown penthouse apartment. Or brag about only drinking premium vodka. Whatever it is, it’s not by accident.
  9. “I’m looking for something serious.” He probably thinks mentioning commitment is enough to turn a girl on in no time. If he’s the type of guy who would lie about this just to trick a woman into bed, he actually means the exact opposite— he’s going to make love to you, then call you a cab home and never speak to you again.
  10. “I’m an astronaut and I’m leaving for a two-year mission to Mars tomorrow.” OK, Barney Stinson. We totally believe you.
