I grew up pretty much obsessed with Jurassic Park and wishing it was a real place you could visit (despite the fact that it would likely end in disaster). It wasn’t, but I feel like I’m about to be one step closer to making that dream a reality since a Canadian company is offering up nearly 80 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs for auction. A chance like this only comes once a lifetime!
- The dinos used to be part of an international exhibit. The Langley, British Columbia-based company offering up the animatronic dinosaurs is handling a massive collection that also includes fossils and other items in the former traveling exhibition. “There’s just about every type of dinosaur,” Jeremy Dodd, CEO of Able Auctions, told the Vancouver Sun. “We also have a whole pile of authentic and original fossils and all the equipment that’s related to putting on a show like this.”
- Everyone may be able to get a bit of the magic. While Dodd expected that one or two buyers might split the collection, so far Able has gotten interest from several people that were only interested in one or two special pieces. It’s unclear were these people plan to put a giant animatronic dinosaur but I suppose many people could use a bit of the magic.
- If you want to bid, you’ll have time to prepare. The first of the dinosaurs will go up for auction from August 6 at 9:30 a.m. for the general public, though there will be a preview event for masked visitors at the Able Auctions warehouse the day before. However, all the bidding for all of the animatronic dinosaurs and other parts of the collection will take place strictly online.
- Pull your pennies together and you might be able to secure one or two. It’s unclear how much the company is looking to get for each of the pieces in the collection, but who knows? If you get in there and happen to want one of the dinos that isn’t as in high demand, you could grab a bargain.
