I don’t know about you, but whenever I think of Macaulay Culkin, I always see him as little 8-year-old Kevin McAllister in Home Alone. In my head, he’s never grown up, but in reality, he’s now a 40-year-old man who’s not only an actor but also a musician and podcaster. He also added a new title to that list: father. Culkin and his girlfriend Brenda Song welcomed their daughter Dakota on April 5, and the first-time parents are said to be thrilled about it.
- Culkin and Song named their daughter after someone special. According to reports, little Dakota’s name came from Culkin’s sister, also named Dakota, who passed away in 2008. She was only 29 when she passed away after being fatally injured in a car accident. “We can officially confirm that the victim is Dakota Culkin,” the Culkin family told TMZ at the time. “This is a terrible tragic accident. We have no further comment at this time.” Being able to preserve her memory in such a beautiful way is a lovely tribute.
- Both parents are said to be “overjoyed” with the new addition to their family. While Culkin and Song already have three cats named Apples, Dude, and Santa, as well as a fish called Cinnamon, having a real live human baby is a whole new amazing adventure. They kept their statement simple, simply telling Esquire: “We are overjoyed.” Fair enough!
- The couple had been trying for a child. This was no accidental pregnancy – Dakota took some preparation. “We practice a lot,” Culkin joked to Esquire prior to Song becoming pregnant. “We’re figuring it out, making the timing work. Because nothing turns you on more than when your lady comes into the room and says, ‘Honey, I’m ovulating.'”
- This truly completes their little family. Culkin and Song began dating after meeting on the set of Changeland a few years back and moved in with each other not long after. They’ve been going strong ever since, and now they even have a daughter together. This is such a wonderful, happy story for them both – congrats!
