Man Cooks Raw Chicken By Slapping It For 8 Hours

A YouTuber has cooked a whole chicken simply by slapping it for eight hours. Louis Weisz was feeling adventurous when he decided to take on the mammoth task, first discussed in a viral 2019 Reddit thread which asked: “If kinetic energy is converted into thermal energy, how hard do I have to slap a chicken to cook it?” Weisz aimed to figure it out once and for all.

  1. It took eight hours to slap a raw chicken cooked. In the video titled “I Cooked a Chicken by Slapping It,” Weisz admitted that completing this task was certainly not easy and took him about two months to complete in total. That’s because the first machine he created to continually slap the chicken wasn’t calibrated right and ruined many a bird. However, he eventually made it happen and frankly, I’m impressed.
  2. The machine that “cooked” the chicken was pretty simple. It was basically a paddle attached to a robot arm, and it worked by slapping the chicken roughly 135,000 times over a period of eight hours. Modernist Cuisine gave him the tip to keep the chicken between 55-60 degrees Celsius for roughly 90 minutes to make sure it was cooked through and safe to eat.
  3. Sadly, it didn’t taste very good. While this method did indeed cook the chicken and bring it to a temperature that’s safe to eat, it didn’t taste very good. Louis himself admitted that it wasn’t worth eating in the end. “It basically tastes like you’ve been chewing it more a minute already,” he said.
  4. This isn’t the first meat Louis cooked by slapping. He’s also tried the method on a piece of steak and it worked, however, that wasn’t very tasty otherwise. Something tells me it might be better to simply cook meat the old-fashioned way. However, it was a cool experiment and interesting to see that it’s actually possible.
