Man Leaves Wife For Ukrainian Refugee He Took In Only 10 Days Before

A British man has left his wife for a Ukrainian refugee who had been living in his living room for 10 days. Tony Garnett, 29, is a father of two who’s in a committed relationship, but his priorities went out the window when he met 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym. Now, he insists he’s in love.

  1. Karkadym liked Garnett from the very beginning. While you would assume that romance would be the last thing on your mind just after fleeing your war-torn homeland, Karkadym couldn’t help but fall for Garnett. “As soon as I saw him I fancied him,” she told The Sun. “It’s been very quick but this is our love story. I know people will think badly of me but it happens. I could see how unhappy Tony was.”
  2. Garnett and Karkadym met through Facebook. While the UK has been working on an official route to match refugees with willing hosts, Garnett and Karkadym actually met on social media recently, and it wasn’t long before Garnett invited her to come and live with him and his partner, Lorna.
  3. Lorna was “very jealous” from the minute Karkadym arrived. The situation was so stressful that Karkadym told Garnett that she had to get out. “The atmosphere was getting really bad and Sofiia told me she didn’t know whether she could continue to live with us under these circumstances,” he recalled. “We both packed our bags and moved into my mum and dad’s home together.”
  4. Garnett is somewhat sorry for what he’s done. It doesn’t look good that he would leave his longtime partner and mother of his children after 10 days for someone he doesn’t know, but Garnett says that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. “We’re sorry for the pain we’ve caused but I’ve discovered a connection with Sofiia like I’ve never had before. We’re planning the rest of our life together,” he said. They’re currently apartment hunting.
