Man Marries Himself In Elaborate Ceremony After Fiancé Dumps Him

Doctor Diogo Rabelo had planned a huge wedding with his fiancé, Vitor Bueno, after they got engaged last November. While the Brazilian couple was due to exchange vows last month, they realized their relationship just wasn’t working out and Vitor dumped Diogo in July 2020. However, Diogo didn’t want to cancel the glorious wedding he had planned, so he decided that if he wasn’t marrying Vitor, he would marry himself.

  1. The show must go on! Diogo knew how much work had gone into planning the ceremony, so on October 17, the 33-year-old decided to say “I do” to himself at a lush ceremony at a resort in Itacare, Bahia. From the looks of the photos, it turned out to be a beautiful day!
  2. Such an extravagant wedding isn’t cheap. The whole affair cost him around $62,000 (350,000 BRL), which is no small amount. No wonder Diogo was hesitant to cancel things! However, given that this was supposed to be the most special day of his life, it’s easy to see why he wanted to go all out!
  3. His family and friends still showed up! Thankfully for Diogo, he was joined by his loved ones for his special day, with the ceremony being attended by 40 guests. Unsurprisingly, none of those were from Vitor’s side, but that’s only to be expected. “Today is one of the happiest days of my life, as I’m with the people I love the most in this life, celebrating what could be a tragedy, but I made it a comedy,” Diogo said of the big day.
  4. It’s all about loving himself. While Diogo did consider shutting the wedding down and canceling it all after he broke up with Vitor, he ultimately knew he had to go through with the marriage on his own. “I analyzed the situation for a month, and decided that I had to appreciate and love myself. I kept the ceremony and 40 of my 50 guests came,” he told Globo. “The message I wanted to send to people with this marriage of mine is not that of a victim, I do not depend on a marriage to be happy. I do want to marry someone else, and I want to have children, but my happiness cannot depend on that.”
  5. The most important thing is that he’s happy. You can’t ask for more than that!
