An Australian man was arrested for driving under the influence after he was seen riding a motorized cooler down a suburban Perth road. The 22-year-old man was in the middle of the road while drunk. The cooler, known in Australia as an esky, was also found to have contained alcohol.
- It wasn’t just stupid, it was dangerous. Given that a motorized beer cooler isn’t actually a vehicle meant for driving down a busy road, the drunk man could easily have been killed or caused an accident between vehicles who spotted him too late or not at all.
- The cooler doesn’t move that fast, after all. As local police said in a statement according to The Telegraph, “This motor vehicle would only be able to travel at very low speeds, the lighting devices on said vehicle would be negligible and make it very difficult for other motorists to see.”
- Oddly enough, he wasn’t the first to be arrested for doing this. In March 2014, a 38-year-old man was also arrested for being drunk while driving his esky. Even as far back as 2011, a 23-year-old man lost his license for the same offense. In other words, this is nothing new.
- Even though this shouldn’t have to be said, don’t drink and ride. Have a few beers from your cooler if you’d like, but don’t then get on the thing and ride it when you’ve knocked back a few.
