Man Shoots McDonald’s Worker Who Refused To Replace His Mother’s Cold Fries

A 20-year-old man is arrested after he shot a McDonald’s employee in the face outside of a Brooklyn store because the worker allegedly refused to replace the gunman’s mother’s cold french fries. The 23-year-old victim is now in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital and may not survive, the New York Post reports.

  1. The incident happened in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood just after 7 p.m. on Monday. A female customer was arguing with a McDonald’s employee about her order while FaceTiming with her 20-year-old son. Soon after, the son turned up at the restaurant and began fighting with the employee himself. “The mom complained that her fries were cold. The mom was on FaceTime with her son, and he heard the dispute between her and the clerk. The son and the clerk got into a dispute inside, and it went outside,” a police source said.
  2. Once outside, the woman’s son pulled out a gun. Before anyone knew what was happening, the 20-year-old shot the employee in the neck. “I feel like crying. You shot someone over french fries?” a witness, who owns a nearby business, told The Post. Another added: “The co-workers, they were around [the victim]. They were on their phones, and they were crying. A man took off his shirt and put it on the neck to try to stop the bleeding. [The victim’s] right eye was swollen shut.”
  3. The victim remains in extremely critical condition. Another witness reported that the worker was “just shaking” and his “chest was heaving” after being shot, but added that “he was still breathing when they put him on the stretcher.” His friends and family turned up at the emergency room on Tuesday afternoon to console one another and check on the victim’s condition.
  4. The shooter was quickly taken into custody. The NYPD found a single 9mm casing at the scene and took the shooter into custody, though chargers had not yet been filed at the time of writing. However, the shooter has a lengthy criminal record already, including for grand larceny and assault and theft of service. The Post notes there are also numerous sealed arrest cases against him.
  5. Many people couldn’t believe that the 20-year-old shooter could do such a thing at all, let alone in front of his mother. “Where does a 20-year-old get a gun from?” one witness remarked, shaking his head. “Fulton Street is the craziest street. It’s getting worse, and the shooters are getting younger. They have lost their sense of direction. It says something when a mother is with her son who is carrying a gun. I saw two police at the corner all week, but yesterday I didn’t see one. They should be at every single corner every day.”
