Man Slammed For Refusing To Give Up Seat For Pregnant Woman Because He Worked A Long Shift

It’s common courtesy to give up your seat for elderly people and pregnant women on public transport so that they can sit, right? However, one man clearly didn’t get the memo and took to Reddit’s AITA sub to ask if he was in the wrong for refusing to let a heavily pregnant woman sit in his seat as he’d worked a long shift and was tired. Unsurprisingly, people were not very supportive of the man’s selfish choice.

  1. He outright told the woman she couldn’t have his seat. While on the bus after finishing a 10-hour shift, the man noticed the heavily pregnant woman get on and look around for a seat. Noticing there were none and standing close to the man, he claimed that “she starts giving me the imploring eyes.” He said that while he “wasn’t rude or anything,” he “just told her no, I’ve had a long day and my feet are sore. I don’t want to give up my seat.”
  2. The woman was extremely upset by the situation. As the man revealed, the pregnant woman became distressed and that’s when he got a bit nasty. “She started crying about how she’s a pregnant single mom, and I told her I’m sorry, but that was her personal choice and she can’t expect other people to accommodate her life choices,” he wrote. He continued by telling her it wasn’t his fault she couldn’t afford a car and that he shouldn’t have to give up his seat because of it.
  3. Other people on the bus were annoyed with him too. And they made it known, which is what led the man to question whether he was being a bit of a jerk. After all, it’s one thing to be rude enough to refuse a pregnant woman a seat, but entirely another thing to start going on a rant about how her predicament is all her fault and her life choices are terrible. I mean, who does that?
  4. Everyone on Reddit pretty much agreed: this guy is an a-hole. One person commented: “What’s next, blaming an old person for being old? Blaming deformed people for being born? You see someone who needs a seat, you give it to them.” Another added: “You didn’t show common courtesy by giving up your seat to someone who needs it much more. As in, if you fall during transit, you may get a bruise, if she fell during transit, she might lose her child. Not to mention no matter how tired you are, she’s more likely to have an accident standing during transit than you.”
