Man Wanted By Police For Divorcing His Wife Without Her Knowledge Then Going On The Run Harris County Constable

A Texas man is wanted by police after he allegedly forged his wife’s name on legal documents to divorce her without her knowledge before going on the run. Paul Nixon, 51, of Harris County, is said to have signed his wife’s name and the name of a notary in a failed attempt to end his marriage. Unfortunately for him, the Harris County Constable figured out what he was up to before he could succeed.

  1. This isn’t a crime you see very often. Constable Mark Herman told The Post that Nixon’s crime is extremely rare. “We rarely see something like this. In this particular case, the gentleman decided to go through a divorce but the only problem is, he left his wife out of the process. And that’s a violation of the law here in Texas,” he explained.
  2. Police have been trying to track Nixon down. He’s wanted by deputies on felony aggravated perjury charges in connection with the crime. His wife called deputies on May 14 to report that Nixon had filed and obtained a final divorce decree with court officials without her knowledge, Herman revealed. “She was very surprised. She started finding things showing that he was spending money on jewelry, so she confronted him and he told her that they were actually divorced,” Herman said.
  3. Nixon and his wife had been married “just a couple of years.” However, when the woman contacted Harrris County District Court, she found several documents with her forged signature on them. Once she reported the forgery, the final divorce decree was vacated due to the filing being obtained fraudulently. Basically, according to the law, Nixon and his wife are still married. “The fraudulent divorce papers have been retracted,” Herman said.
  4. Nixon faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. A no-bond warrant is out for his arrest, and Herman said there are “teams of officers out looking for him right now.”
