McDonald’s Holiday Pies Are Back To Cover Your Festive Dessert Desires McDonald's

I don’t eat fast food too often these days, but when I do, I’m a devoted fan of McDonald’s. They have the best fries, the best chicken nuggets, and definitely the best apple pies. The apple pies are always crispy, hot (sometimes to the point of burning my tongue), and always filled with sugary deliciousness. However, I may have to switch over for the time being because McDonald’s holiday pies are back for a limited time only.

  1. How did I not know these were a thing? Frankly, I didn’t even know that McDonald’s did holiday pies, so when I first discovered their funfetti-looking goodness, I was confused. Was this a real thing? Yep, turns out it is. They first came out in 2012 and have been making a return every holiday season since.
  2. So what are “holiday pies” anyway? McDonald’s is never one to sacrifice on deliciousness (read: calories), so the pies are made of a sugar cookie crust and filled with vanilla custard before being topped with rainbow sprinkles. In other words, it’s one of the best things you’ll ever put in your mouth.
  3. Shockingly, they’re not that terrible for you. You would expect that custard contained in sugar cookie dough would be a calorie fest, but they’re not actually that bad. Each McDonald’s holiday pie contains only 260 calories, which is pretty reasonable for a dessert. They also have 12g of fat and 13g of sugar, so they’re not exactly a health food but they’re also not the worst thing you could eat. For comparison, their apple pies have 240 calories, 11g of fat at 16g of sugar.)
  4. Unfortunately, it’s not back in every McDonald’s. Some fans of the holiday pie have expressed their frustration at not being able to find the item on their local McDonald’s menu, and McDonald’s did confirm via Twitter that not every one of their stores will be carrying it. The answer? Reach out to your local store to see if they have it – and if they do, buy a dozen so you never run out (but please don’t reheat them in the microwave).
