Meowing Cat Helps Rescuers Locate 83-Year-Old Woman Who Fell Down Ravine

A loudly meowing cat allowed rescuers to locate an 83-year-old woman who’d fallen down a ravine in Cornwall, England. Concerned neighbors dialed emergency services after the woman had been missing for more than an hour, and while police immediately began searching for her, it wasn’t until a member of the public heard the cat meowing and was led right to her, BBC News reports.

  1. The woman had fallen nearly 70 feet into a stream. Thanks to Piran the cat’s loud meowing, rescuers discovered the older woman at the bottom of the 70-foot ravine in a stream “with incredibly difficult access and uneven terrain.” Thank goodness the cat was around!
  2. The cat was “quite persistent” with its meowing. A witness said that if it wasn’t for Piran’s “quite persistent” meowing, rescuers may not have paid it too much attention. Thankfully they did, however. “It’s a massive ‘well done’ to all the emergency services who worked together and to Piran. The outcome could have been a lot worse,” the witness said.
  3. Now, Piran is being hailed as a hero! As Bodmin Police said in a statement: “Piran the cat saved the day. … Whilst the lady concerned is still currently receiving care, she is in good spirits and is being well looked after. We’ve also managed to obtain a photo of the Hero himself.”
  4. Thankfully, the woman is expected to recover. The victim was pulled up from the ravine on a stretcher and air-lifted to a local hospital, where she’s said to be in stable condition. I hate to think what would have happened to her if Piran wasn’t around!
