Missing Beagle Returns Home With Winner’s Ribbon From Dog Show

Anyone who has pets knows just how devastating it is if they happen to get lost or go missing. Peter and Paula Closier felt this first-hand when their gorgeous little beagle Bonnie escaped through an open gate and disappeared. Thankfully, the 5-year-old pup eventually did find his way home, and he was wearing a winner’s ribbon from a local dog show when he got there!

  1. The Closiers sought help from anyone and everyone to find Bonnie when she went missing. Kids and neighbors pitched in on the search, and the couple got in touch with the local vets, animal shelters, and the police so that they had the best chance to bring Bonnie home.
  2. Bonnie was seen on the side of the road by a man named John Wilmer. He was actually on his way to a dog show at the time with his own two dogs. Realizing that Bonnie was obviously lost, he popped her into the car with his dogs and brought her along to the dog show since he was already running late.
  3. The Closiers were so relieved. John put a picture of Bonnie on Facebook to alert locals that he’d found the dog, and Paula Closier saw the post and arranged for Bonnie to be bought home after the dog show. Whew – what a relief!
  4. Bonnie entered the dog show. John figured that since Bonnie was there, she might as well be entered in the rescue dog class. “She was such a lovely dog. I thought it’d be good to enter her,” Wilmer later recalled.
  5. Bonnie went home a winner! The beagle ended up getting third place in the Best Rescue Dog category and was given a lovely yellow ribbon to celebrate. When she arrived home, the Closiers were shocked to see the winning prize.
