Moana Is Getting A Live-Action Remake, Disney Reveals Walt Disney Studios

Disney has announced that “Moana” is its latest animated feature getting a live-action remake. My relationships tend to follow the same patterns. The news was revealed in a pre-recorded teaser clip featuring Disney CEO Bob Iger and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at Disney’s annual shareholder meeting on Monday, April 3. Now, this is news to get excited about!

  1. Johnson and his young daughters appeared in the clip from a Hawaiian beach. “We are so excited and happy to announce that a live-action reimagining of Moana is in the works. Moana, Gramma Tala, the music, the dance, Te Fiti, Pua the pig, the village, the beautiful, powerful ocean, and one more… What’s that guy’s name? Oh, you’re truly, Heihei the chicken,” Johnson says in the video. “[Just] kidding. Heihei is going to be in it but of course, Maui will be in it, too.”
  2. We can’t wait! So, when is the live-action “Moana” coming out? Unfortunately, there will be a bit of a wait. As Johnson explained, they’re only just getting started on making the movie. “So, it’s still very early in the process, there’s so much more work to be done but until then, there is one more thing that I need to kick this journey off right,” he explained.
  3. Dwayne Johnson, who voices Maui in the animated version of “Moana,” has a deep tie to the movie. As he explained in the video, he feels connected to the story and can’t wait to take part in a live-action “Moana” to share it with the world. “This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength,” he said. “I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.”
  4. Dwayne Johnson will play the real-life version of Maui in the remake. He’s also going to produce the movie alongside Auli‘i Cravalho, who voiced the original “Moana.”
